Yesterday I caught up with my grandparents and my grandma was kind enough to bring me some of her delicious homegrown figs. I thought I'd try to incorporate some of them in my porridge this morning and it turned out nicely. To make I combined 1/3 cup oats and approximately 3/4 cup almond milk in a small saucepan over low/medium heat. After a minute or two I added 1 1/2 chopped figs and some roughly chopped almonds. When cooked I topped with more chopped figs, roughly chopped almonds and some honey. Figs aid in lowering high blood pressure as they are a great source of potassium, a mineral that counteracts the damaging effects of sodium. They are also a great source of fibre and therefore can be helpful in weight management. Figs are also protective against macular degeneration, a degenerative disease of the retina.
