Yet another smoothie! I often start my day with a smoothie and I think they are a great way to include a variety of nutrients into your diet, as well as being really delicious simultaneously. To make this smoothie I blended together 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 3 tbs natural yoghurt, 2 tbs chia seeds, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder and 3/4 cup milk. I then topped with oats, more chia seeds, almonds, goji berries and dried cranberries. Chia seeds are an excellent source of fibre, which aids in bowel health, lowering cholesterol and reducing inflammation. In fact the 2 tbs in this smoothie contains a huge 10 grams of fibre, which is one-third of the recommended daily intake. Chia seeds are also rich in antioxidants and minerals. As well as this they are high in beneficial omega-3 fatty acids that can help in reducing high cholesterol, inflammation and enhance cognitive function.
